Travel In Los Angeles

Unlike most major cities throughout the world, Los Angeles does not have a well-established subway or public transportation system although it has been improving over the past several years. Historically, most people have driven their cars to work and for leisure activities. Because the roads have become more congested as the population has increased, the relatively new subway system has become a more attractive alternative. From USC, there is a bus system that will take you to the subway should you desire to use it. However, the subways do not travel very far west towards the ocean and the beach cities. There are some buses that do, but most people rely on cars or taxis.

Again, unlike most major cities, since we use our own cars, there is a relatively small taxi system even though there are several taxi companies.  Generally, you cannot flag a taxi down on a main street, but instead you will have to call for taxi to pick you up. Your packet will include the telephone numbers of taxi companies should you decide to use one.

Please keep in mind the The United States operates on 110 volts, alternating current. Most outlets are two or three pronged but are of different size than in nearly all European and Middle Eastern countries. Please bring an adapter for all your electrical equipment.
