Sheila M. Sofian brings a wealth of experience in the animation field, with a special emphasis on documentary animation, to her courses at USC.

A Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, Sofian has produced six independent animated films, and received grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the National Video Resources Program for Media Artists, funded by the Rockefeller Foundatio, the Roy W. Dean Film Grant, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Women in Film Foundation, and the Pew Fellowships in the Arts, as well as a residency at the MacDowell Colony. Sheila's professional experience includes work as a freelance animator on feature films and a staff animator position at an online production company.

Her award-winning films have been shown at numerous international and domestic film festivals, and have been televised on WHYY's Independent Images, WYBE's Through the Lens and WTTW's Image Union.  In addition, she is a dedicated teacher who founded the Animation Program at College of the Canyons in Valencia and was coordinator of the Animation Program at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
