In addition to overseeing the John C. Hench Division of Animation & Digital Arts as the program's chair, Kathy Smith also teaches courses in contemporary and expanded animation, production, as well as independent studies.
Her films have screened at numerous international venues including Hiroshima, Anima Mundi and Ottawa International Animation Festivals. Independently creating and producing thirteen animated films including traditional character cartoons, experimental mixed media animations, and most recently two computer-assisted digital animated films, Smith has exhibited at group and solo exhibitions such as Institute of Contemporary Art London, Conservatorio di Santa Maria degli Angeli Florence , Italy, and the Australian National Gallery Canberra.
An Australian artist who has been working with painting, installation and animation since 1982, Kathy Smith believes the infinite connection to everything in existence is the underlying force that makes animation a powerful medium for conveying complex ideas, dreams, and emotions.
