Richard Edlund teaches producing students in USC’s Peter Stark Program about new technologies and visual effects. He has won four Oscars for visual effects in Star Wars (1977);The Empire Strikes Back (1980); Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981); and Return of the Jedi (1983). He received Oscar nominations for six other films including Ghostbusters (1984) and Die Hard (1988).

He has won three of the Academy’s Scientific and Engineering Awards, two British Academy Awards, an Emmy, and in 2007 was  given the President’s Award by the American Society of Cinematographers. He is a twelve-year governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences where he chairs its Scientific and Technical Awards Committee and its new Academy Movie Museum Collections Committee.

Recently, Edlund supervised visual effects for Mike Nichols in HBO’s Angels in America (2003) and Universal’s Charlie Wilson’s War (2007). His company Boss Film Studios produced visual effects for about 30 movies as well as a host of CLIO Award-winning commercials.
