Lezra Portillo serves as the Scholarship Coordinator for the USC School of Cinematic Arts. In this capacity she manages over $600,000 in scholarship and production awards available to both undergraduate majors and graduate students.  Portillo also works with student organizations within the School of Cinematic Arts in their programming efforts. These groups include Cinema Student Council, African American Cinema Society, First Pitch, Out for Reel, Women of Cinematic Arts and Entertainment Industry Network.  She has assisted in putting together cinema workshops for neighboring high school students including Manual Arts and Crenshaw High school and coordinating Open House events for non-major students.

Portillo holds a B.A. in International Relations and M.F.A. in Professional Writing from USC, and has served the scholarship chair for the USC Lambda Alumni Association.  Prior to the cinema school, Portillo worked as a community and labor organizer for several years.
