Dr. Maureen Furniss is founding editor of
Animation Journal, the first peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted to animation history, theory, and criticism. She teaches animation students about the world of visual effects at USC.
She is author of
Art in Motion: Animation Aesthetics (John Libbey, 1998) and the forthcoming
Art of Animating, from Flipbooks to Flash (Harry N. Abrams, 2008), and she has edited other animation-related books. She has been invited to lecture on animation internationally and her essays appear in many animation-related anthologies.
Dr. Furniss holds degrees in film production as well as a Ph.D. in Critical Studies from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. She is also on the faculty of the School of Film and Video at California Institute of the Arts.
