In addition to overseeing the school’s scholarship program, Alan Baker develops and coordinates various international workshops, including those conducted in Jordan and Vietnam. He organizes numerous special events, and is often involved in projects on behalf of the dean involving faculty, staff and students.  He is often asked to represent the school on university committees and meets regularly with special international visitors.  He also publishes a bi-weekly newsletter for faculty and staff.  

Prior to coming to USC in 1998, Baker spent more than 20 years in the television production and programming area. He served as vice-president for Programming at 20th Century Fox Television and Paramount Television where he developed and supervised reality and news series for the syndicated markets. He began his television career at Public Broadcasting station KCET in Los Angeles where he produced several music series and cultural specials for the PBS network. Between 1982–1984, he left television to work for the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee where he was in charge of all press and publicity for the 10-week international Olympic Arts Festival, a $20 million official component of the Olympic Games that attracted more than 400,000 paid admissions.  He also served a three-year stint with the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, the largest writers organization in the world where he headed up all business operations.
