Sound Department Completes Significant Upgrades
Over the summer, the sound department added new hardware and upgraded its facilities to retain its state-of-the-art status.
- Digidesign Pro Tools hardware and software systems were upgraded to the latest HD version in all rooms.
- New Digital Production Sound Kits for the 546N and 480 classes were purchased and assembled featuring the Fostex FR-2 hard disk recorder and the Sound Devices 442 Mixer. Students will be able to record production sound, edit and mix their final tracks without having to leave the digital domain.
- The Dub B mix stage/classroom was fully remodeled. Famed acoustician George Augsberger consulted on the project. New fiberglass panels were installed on the walls and ceilings. Digidesign’s latest mixing control surface, a 24 channel D-Command, is the centerpiece of the rooms. It sits atop a custom designed desk by KK Audio. 12 Klispsch RSX surr9ound speakers along with a state-of-the-art Denon 5805 surround receiver (with design input from Cinema-Television professor and developer of THX, Tomlinson Holman) were also installed.
