Script To Screen

New Database Brings Cinema-Television Talent Together

In a move to unite students who write screenplays with students looking to make them, the School of Cinema-Television has established the Script Database, an online listing of stories penned by writing division grads and undergrads.

Available via the CNTV Community Website to all cinema-television faculty and students, the database was launched last spring thanks to the efforts of writing adjunct professor Frank Chindamo.

“It’s extremely easy to use,” said Chindamo, who is also the founder and CEO of Fun Little Movies, the first American mobile channel to specialize in original, live-action comedy content. “The professors can suggest everything from dialogue to adding comments right in the script so that they can go back and forth with the writer. By the time everyone is done, the student has an A or A- minus script ready for filming.”

Working with the school’s Information Technology Manager Jason Martinez, Chindamo based the design on a simple gatekeeper theory. Once a student uploads a script, they enter a brief synopsis, script length and genre, and then select a professor to view their work. The instructor then either approves the script or recommends edits so that it’s ready for production students to download.

The database currently has approximately 55 scripts available and any cinema student can submit a script or browse the selections via MyCNTV.
