Showcasing Rising Stars At First Look

Building on a tradition that has seen its students catapult from the classroom to the Oscars, the USC School of Cinematic Arts First Look Film Festival will be screening top-notch live-action and animation films this April, Associate Dean Larry Auerbach announced today.

The event, which takes place April 9-13 at the Directors Guild of America, will feature over 40 entries, followed by a special screening of the live action films at USC’s Norris Theater Complex on April 14.
Says Auerbach: “Our goal is to assist our students in presenting their films under the best possible conditions. We have found industry representatives eager and anxious to consider the works of our students as they are, oftentimes, the talent poised to shape our industry.”
Among the notable recent filmmakers who have showcased their shorts at the festival are Ari Sandel, who won an Oscar this February for West Bank Story; Eric Anderson, whose animated short Horses on Mars has led to deals with some of the major studios and Liz Allen, who made Eyeball Eddie, and went on to direct last year's summer teen hit Aquamarine.

Intruder is one of 16 animated films to screen on April 13, 2007.
