PSA Contest Selects SCA Finalists

Videos To Support Breast Cancer Research

Two videos to be made by M.F.A. production students have been named as finalists in the Love/Avon Army of Women "Beyond A Cure" PSA Contest, which seeks to promote awareness and action to combat breast cancer. A project proposed by the team of Brent McHenry and Nick Wenger, and another one by Courtney Thomas, were among the four that advanced to the finalist level. The other two were from students at New York University's Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television.

These individuals will receive funding from the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation to create a compelling video about the Love/Avon Army of Women, the groundbreaking initiative that gives women the opportunity to partner with scientists and advance breast cancer research. The winning video will be used in a viral marketing campaign to educate women about, and encourage them to enroll in, the Army of Women.

A panel of judges, which included representatives of the foundation and entertainment/marketing industry executives, selected the four finalists. Each finalist will receive $5,000 to make their projects. During the first week of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month, the public will be invited to go online and vote for their favorite PSA. These votes will determine the Grand Prize winner.

The Grand Prize winner will receive an Apple Final Cut Studio Package and the opportunity to meet with the senior vice president of production at New Regency Productions, the company founded by Arnon Milchan that distributes its films worldwide through Twentieth Century Fox.
