Alumnus and Writing Prof Asked To Join Academy

Writing division Professor Howard A. Rodman and Peter Stark Producing Program alumnus John August (M.F.A. '94) have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (AMPAS). The duo were among two of the four writers to recieve the honor this year. In total, the academy invited 134 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept will be the only additions in 2009 to the group's roster of voting members. The academy is made up of just under 6,000 voting members, a figure that has held steady since 2003.

New members will be welcomed into the organization at an invitation-only reception at the academy's Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September.
