Summer Program 2009: Featured Classes!

USC's summer film program gives participants from around the world an opportunity to attend intensive, thorough, creatively demanding and satisfying filmmaking classes.

Over 30 filmmaking classes cover all aspects of filmmaking, screenwriting, computer graphics/animation & gaming, film & television business and film studies. Students will experience the business of film and the most cutting edge digital technologies.

Here are four of our featured classes for 2009:


Webisodes: Mobile & Internet Viral Screenwriting and Production

In this cutting-edge class you'll learn all the skills necessary to lead the short-form revolution. You'll also develop polished digital short-form content like webisodes for the Internet or mobisodes for mobile phones.

The instructor, Frank Chindamo, is the President and Chief Creative Officer of the Fun Little Movies, a channel of hundreds of short, comedic mobile movies that play on Sprint and Ericsson phones, Veoh, Revver, etc. They play in the US, throughout England, Europe, Australia through the Australian Broadcast Company [ABC], Hungama Mobile in India, New Zealand and South Africa. Directing Intensive

Directing Intensive is all about preparing you for the responsibilities and functions a director must successfully navigate in order to direct a polished short film. The lessons you learn in this class will help you finish a five to 12 minute narrative short as well as learning directing fundamentals that will help you begin your career as a director. The core of the course will be the individual project.

Professor Michael Toshiyuki Uno has directed 15 movies for cable or television, with one theatrical release and 12 episodic, shorts and specials. Learn more about this class...
Advanced Screenwriting

Do you hope to become a Hollywood screenwriter? Do you have good ideas for stories and characters, but need some guidance to create a finished screenplay?

This new this class is taught by SCA Instructor David Balkan and has been designed to offer summer students a chance to write a complete, feature-length screenplay. You will leave the USC Summer Film Program with a finished script, an actual project you can continue to revise or take out into the industry to find and agent. Learn more about this class...
Sebastian Twardosz The Insider: Making it in Hollywood

The purpose of this six-week course is to demystify the behind-the-scenes world of Hollywood. You will learn exactly how the business works from people who are in it now and who are succeeding at what they do.

Your instructor, Sebastian Twardosz, has been very fortunate to work with leading companies in both film and television for the past 15 years. He was recently a senior acquisitions executive for Allumination FilmWorks, which specialized in the distribution of festival-quality independent films.
