Ioana Uricaru's Thesis Film Selected
in the shorts competition at the AFI Fest
Critical Studies Ph.D. candidate Ioana Uricaru reports that her 2008 M.F.A. thesis film
The Sun and the Moon was selected in the Shorts Competition at the November 2008 AFI Fest. It was also screened at the American Cinematheque in the Focus on Female Directors program.
Uricaru, who is from Romania, was invited to be one of five Romanian filmmakers to direct
Tales from the Golden Age (written and produced by Cristian Mungiu), shooting her segment last summer in Romania. The film will be released some time this year.
Uricaru's essay "4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days--The Corruption of Intimacy" was in the summer 2008 issue of
Film Quarterly, and she has a chapter in an anthology on Romania, plus a co-written essay, in
The Velvet Trap #63.
