NCSA and ICHASS Receive NEH Challenge Grant
Including a Project Based at the IML
Virginia Kuhn reports that The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), along with the Institute for Computing in the Humanities, Arts and Social Science (ICHASS), received an NEH challenge grant. The grant includes the Humanistic Algorithms Project a project based at the IML and headed by Kuhn, with participation from colleagues at Illinois State and Indiana University.
The Supercomputing Centers will use data analytics to extract information from unstructured texts (i.e., raw textual data like Web sites, etc.) to produce semantic information that can be used to create meta-analyses of scholarly multimedia. Beginning with databases of scholarship in the fields of rhetoric, composition and new media studies, the project will attempt to understand trends in scholarship and how they are impacted by digital technologies.
