Norman Hollyn News
Field producer of Public Service Announcments
Production associate professor Norman Hollyn reports that back in April, he
worked as one of five field producers for a series of Personal Public
Service Announcements on National HIV Testing Day, which was Friday,
June 27.
His group shot and edited six PSAs in a day on the Nokia N95
phone as part of a project jointly sponsored by Nokia, Verizon and the
Center for Disease Control. These PPSA's (as we called them) are premiering
on Verizon's Vcast network and their FiOS broadcasting channel beginning
this Friday. The videos are already on the CDC's website at
http://www.nmi.uga.edu/aids_ppsa/.
Norman says he is proud of the way theyook. He has also just signed a contract
to write a book, called
"The Lean Forward Moment: Telling Better Stories on Film,
Television and the Web", about shaping story across all of the film crafts. The
book will come out from Peachpit Press/Pearson in December and will include discussion of
several USC thesis projects, two webisodes from former USC students, as well
as a number of television episodes and feature films, including the film
Mark Harris wrote and directed, Into the Arms of Strangers.
Norman will also be on two panels at the UFVA conference in August. One will be on
editing the film
Rivers, a documentary about people's relationships to the
rivers that they live on across the world. The other is a panel on methods
of teaching editing.
