Mary Beth Fielder Awarded

A U.S. Speakers & Specialist grant

Production senior lecturer Mary Beth Fielder has been awarded a U.S. Speakers and Specialist  grant through the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Programs.

Fielder will be conducting a series of scriptwriting  workshops and career mentoring workshops to be held in Kibera  (the largest slum in East Africa) and other parts of Nairobi, Kenya for  young people from Kibera and local universities and training centers.

In addition to the State Department, the program is being coordinated through ArtVenture, the Kenya Film Comission, and the Hot Sun Foundation.  Hot Sun Foundation was founded by Nathan Collett, a Production MFA (2006) who has been making films with youth in slums for more than eight years.  He introduced Fielder to Kibera.
