Gabrielle Kelley Lectures
About Irish film industry
Screenwriting Adjunct Gabrielle Kelly gave the annual Piestriuski Lecture at Concordia College entitled
Ireland; Isle of Saints, Scholars... and Filmmakers.
As a member of the Irish Academy of Film and Television, Kelly discussed the booming art and industry in Ireland which just recently was capped by winning the Oscar for Best Song, from the successful independent feature,
Once. After a broad overview of the history of filmmaking in Ireland, the audience watched a series of clips from Irish films, old and new, starting with
Man of Aran and ending with Oscar nominated short,
Everything in This Country Must, on which Kelly worked.
The lecture was followed by a corned beef and cabbage feast and toasts to Ireland, recently voted by UNESCO as the country with the highest quality of life in the world.
