Starkie Jessica L. Funches '03


Something is Killing Tate, the debut feature film for producer Jessica L. Funches (Peter Stark Producing Program 2003) and writer/director Leon Lozano (Production 2004), won the “Best Drama” Award this weekend at the San Diego Black Film Festival in addition to being nominated for “Best Lead Actor,” “Best Director,” and “Best Overall Film.” 

This film is a true USC project as the Director of Photography, Max Gutierrez, and the Editor, Corey Ziemniak, are also graduates of the Production Program.

The film will also be screening at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles on Monday, February 11th at 6:50 PM and Sunday, February 17th at 8:15 PM. The PAFF Jury has nominated Something is Killing Tate for the Oscar Micheaux Award.
