Sloan Science Seminar -- UPDATE!!!

PANELISTS NAMED FOR FRIDAY'S PROGRAM

TO CLARIFY THE TOPIC FOR FRIDAY -- it's not just phobias, but also obsessive-compulsive disorders, a far more serious
illness that manifests itself in various ways.

These topics offer a wealth of ideas for character and story development.

Remember, if you are planning to submit a proposal for a Sloan grant next year, you must attend this seminar.
And, it should be informative and interesting.  And, all of you should know someone who has phobias or some
elements of OCD;  this is the time to understand them better.

The three panelists for Friday's Sloan Science Seminar have been announced.  They are:

1.  RANDY ZISK--executive producer and director, MONK.  A School of Cinematic Arts alum, he has directed episodes of
WEEDS, GREY'S ANATOMY, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, PRISON BREAK, CHICAGO HOPE, HOUSE, and many
                           others.

2.  DR. MICHELE PATO--Professor and Associate Dean, Department of Psychiatry, USC Keck School of Medicine.
                                      Specializes in obsessive-compulsive disorders

3.  DR. ALEXANDER BYSTRITSKY--Professor of Psychiatry, and a director at the UCLA Anxiety Disorders Program

The moderator is Michael Renov, associate dean, School of Cinematic Arts.

NOTE:  Some of you receiving this note submitted script and production proposals for this year's Sloan grant and have not
heard if the awards have been announced.  They have not.  The production proposals recommended by the
faculty committee were submitted to Sloan in early summer and are still being reviewed.  We apologize for the
            delay.

In writing, there were numerous scripts submitted but the Writing faculty who reviewed them were only able to
recommend two of them to Sloan.  Since we like to submit multiple scripts to Sloan, we asked those who had
submitted, to resend their scripts to my office (Alan Baker).  After reading all of them, there was only one that
could be considered for the submission to Sloan which has now been done.

Please do not let these delays deter you from attending or preparing new projects for this program.

Please RSVP to attend on Friday, beginning at 4:00 p.m.  Two MONK episodes will be shown beginning at 2:00--
"Mr. Takes His Medicine," and "Mr. Monk and the Sleeping suspect."
