Associate dean Michael Renov was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article about an amateur video allegedly depicting a police officer shooting an unarmed off-duty airman. The film is key evidence in the officer’s attempted voluntary manslaughter trial, the story stated. Increased public exposure to amateur video may make jurors more skeptical about the images, the article pointed out. “We know historically that documentary film is dominated by the voice — that we’re very prone to follow what it is that we are being told about what we are seeing,” Renov said. In this case, the lawyer gets to provide the voice-over, he noted.

Renov also recently gave a talk at Knox College in Galesburg, Il.
