Eric Hanson Quoted

FORBES

Eric Hanson  was quoted in Forbes about motion picture special effects. Producers are increasingly willing to designate 25 to 40 percent of their film budgets for special effects, Hanson said. “We’re in a green-light phase for effects right now because of the success from ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Lord of the Rings,’ ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Pirates,’” he said. “We have a lot of golden eggs right now making studios happy to invest.” The costs of special effects have decreased in recent years, he added, estimating that one second’s worth of effects on an average film cost $4,000 in 1995, compared with $1,300 today. “It’s because of the democratization of the tool set,” he explained. “I hear from 14-year-olds who have access to the software by finding it for free on the Internet.”
