Views on Music Ban
Todd Boyd

Critical Studies professor Todd Boyd was quoted in the
Los Angeles Times about
Rev. Al Sharpton’s protest aimed at pressuring major music companies into banning three pejorative words.
The campaign is also supported by Def Jam Recordings co-founder Russell Simmons, the story noted. Sharpton needs visibility and is creating a target to make himself relevant, and Simmons is trying to evolve from a hip-hop mogul to a more spiritual kind of leader, Boyd said. The new position of the two men isn’t surprising, he added.
